When asked about his future prospect of communication
satellites in 1961, US Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
Commissioner Tunis Craven claimed, “There is practically no chance
communications space satellites will be used to provide better
telephone, telegraph, television, or radio service inside the United
States.” This was eventually proven false, when a communication
satellite named Syncom 3 successfully transmitted communication
signals from Japan to the United States three years later, during
the 1964 Olympics.

Phone Radio
Here is an interesting twist, an application for the iPhone that plays radio.
Public Radio Exchange developed the free Public Radio Player for the iPhone and now has 2.5 million downloads. The other application it has developed is for the show 'This American Life'. Since we already have video on the phone, seems logical to add radio as another battery burner.

Internet Radio
Here is an interesting 'old is new' concept. Free music, sports, and news from around the world. It is called Ira, an Internet Radio Adapter that connects automatically to any wireless Internet network in about 3 minutes without the need of a computer.
Just take it out of the box, plug it in, and connect it to your home stereo or speakers with the included audio cables. It features over 11,000 stations from just about every country in the world and includes On Demand (Podcast) programming for many stations so you can listen to your favorite shows when you want. It costs about $150 for the device, including the remote control and piggybacks on your internet connection for free.
