What's in a name, Cadillac

This luxury car maker combined elements from the Ford and Oldsmobile companies when it was started in 1902 and later became known for its innovation and high quality. The company was named for the French explorer Antoine Laumet de la Mothe Cadillac, who founded the city of Detroit in 1701. Cadillac, Michigan (Originally Clam Lake) is also named after Antoine.

Killed by a Robot

In 1979, A 25-year-old Ford Motor assembly line worker is killed on the job in a Flat Rock, Michigan, casting plant. It’s the first recorded human death by robot. Williams died instantly in 1979 when the robot’s arm slammed him as he was gathering parts in a storage facility, where the robot also retrieved parts. His family was awarded a generous sum in compensation.

Hogan's Heros

September 17, 1965 - CBS television premieres Hogan's Heroes, the first and perhaps only sitcom based in a German prisoner-of-war camp. It ran until 1971, but reruns are still seen on many TV channels.

George Eastman patented his first rollfilm camera and registers "Kodak" in September 1888. Also in September, Ford introduce the Edsel in 1957.

Google Earth

Most of you have heard of the Google Earth project that takes satellite pictures of the globe, but have you seen the pictures? Google Earth has software that can be downloaded to your PC to navigate anywhere on the globe and do close up and far away looks at many things. Below is a picture of Ford building outside of Detroit.

Ford

Hard to believe Ford is doing so well when you read the following. A husband and wife went to their local Ford dealership in Canton , Mississippi to pick up their car.  When they arrived,they were told the keys had been locked in it.

They went to the service department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the driver's side door. As the wife watched from the passenger side, she instinctively tried the door handle and discovered that it was unlocked. She told the repair man that the door was open and he replied, "I know. I already got that side."
